MATHURAPUR, WB — With the state heading toward a critical electoral showdown, Amit Shah has placed identity and security at the center of the BJP’s pitch. His remarks follow the publication of a controversial revised electoral roll on Saturday, which saw 63.66 lakh names deleted as part of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR)—a move Shah claims has made Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee “nervous.”
1. The CAA and Refugee Guarantee
Shah directly blamed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for delaying the benefits of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
- The Allegation: “If Mamata Banerjee had not opposed the CAA, every Hindu refugee from Bangladesh would have received citizenship by now,” Shah stated.
- The Promise: He reassured the Matua and other refugee communities: “I have come to tell all Hindu refugees that you don’t have to worry… Not a single refugee will lose their citizenship.”
2. Crackdown on Infiltration
Linking state security to national integrity, the Home Minister promised a “cleansing” of the border state.
- Beyond Voter Rolls: While names are currently being deleted from electoral rolls, Shah promised that a BJP government would go further by physically removing “every infiltrator.”
- “Sonar Bangla” Vision: He argued that only the BJP could protect the borders, claiming the TMC has turned Bengal into a “heaven for infiltrators” for the sake of vote-bank politics.
3. Economic and Governance “Parivartan”
To woo the state’s massive government workforce and unemployed youth, Shah made several time-bound promises:
- 7th Pay Commission: Promised implementation for state employees within 45 days of forming the government.
- Job Recruitment: Pledged to fill all vacant government posts by December 26, 2026, with a 5-year age relaxation for candidates who missed out due to recruitment delays.
