Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 31: Rajasthan Royals’ Nitish Rana has thrown his support behind Riyan Parag’s captaincy after RR secured a 6-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2025 clash on Sunday.
Parag, leading Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the first time this season, faced scrutiny after two consecutive defeats. However, RR’s all-round performance helped them end their losing streak.
Rana on Parag’s Captaincy
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rana dismissed the idea that a captain’s worth should be judged solely on results.
🔹 “I think captaincy is result-oriented. If you win, you are considered a good captain, but I don’t believe so. Riyan is calm as a captain,” said Rana.
Parag’s fielding brilliance played a crucial role in RR’s win. His one-handed catch to dismiss Shivam Dube was a defining moment in the match, according to Rana.
🔹 “Riyan’s catch was the important turning point of the game,” he added.
Rana’s Batting & Jofra Archer’s Impact
Rana’s explosive 81 off 36 balls powered RR to a competitive 182/9. However, he admitted that a 200-run total would have been ideal.
Despite this, Jofra Archer’s fiery powerplay spell put CSK on the back foot early on.
🔹 “I thought we were 15 to 20 runs short. But a 180-run total was ideal on this surface. Credit goes to Jofra Archer for his remarkable spell in the powerplay,” Rana said.
With this win, Rajasthan Royals moved up in the IPL 2025 points table, while CSK suffered their second straight loss.
