New Delhi [India]: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced a ₹12,500 crore investment to enhance Delhi’s transport infrastructure and address pressing issues of pollution and traffic congestion. Additionally, a CRIF fund of ₹1,200 crore has been allocated to the national capital.

In a post on X, Gadkari stated, “Recognizing the important proposals given by Union Minister of State H.D. Malhotra, along with Delhi MPs Praveen Khandelwal, Ramvir Bidhuri, Bansuri Swaraj, Manoj Tiwari, and Yogender Chandoliya, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, new works worth ₹12,500 crore are being announced to improve Delhi’s transport network and to reduce pollution as well as congestion in the city.”
Key Project Highlights:
- Reducing External Vehicle Pressure: Gadkari emphasized that the initiatives would alleviate the pressure of vehicles entering Delhi from other states, reducing both traffic congestion and air pollution.
- Major Connectivity Projects:
- UER-II to Delhi-Katra Expressway: ₹2,500 crore has been allocated to connect UER-II to the Delhi-Katra Expressway via KMPE, providing direct access for vehicles from Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab to Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
- UER-II to Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: ₹2,200 crore will connect UER-II near Alipur to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Tronica City, benefiting vehicles traveling between Haryana, Rajasthan, and Dehradun. Travel time to Indira Gandhi International Airport from these regions will reduce from 1.5 hours to 45 minutes.
- Tunnel Construction:
A 5-km tunnel worth ₹3,500 crore will be built from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Marg (Vasant Kunj), addressing traffic jams in the Mahipalpur and Rangpuri areas. This project will ease congestion for residents of Delhi and Gurugram. - Bypass for East Delhi:
Direct connectivity between Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and Noida will act as a bypass for East Delhi. This ₹4,400 crore project will also link North Delhi, North-West Delhi, and South-West Delhi to Noida via Ghaziabad.
Future Infrastructure Investments:
Gadkari revealed plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in Delhi over the next two years to transform the city’s infrastructure.
“This initiative is expected to drastically improve the city’s transport efficiency and environmental quality, ensuring significant relief for Delhi residents and commuters,” he stated.
