Washington DC [US], July 19: The Owens sisters are officially back as Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have begun filming ‘Practical Magic 2’, the long-awaited sequel to their beloved 1998 cult classic.
Kidman shared the news with fans on Instagram, posting a behind-the-scenes video from their first day on set. The short clip captures the two actresses embracing, clearly thrilled to reprise their roles as magical siblings Sally and Gillian Owens.
“The witches are back. Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic,” Kidman captioned the post.

The original Practical Magic, directed by Griffin Dunne, followed two sisters from a family of witches as they battled a deadly family curse that doomed any man they fell in love with. In the sequel, director Susanne Bier (known for The Undoing and Bird Box) takes the helm, reuniting with both Kidman and Bullock.
“This is the perfect triangle because we all know each other so well,” Kidman said about working with Bier and Bullock. “To be able to work together on something that is fun and witchy — it just felt right.”
Fans will be excited to know that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are returning as the eccentric Owens aunts. The new cast also includes Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod.
The script has been co-written by Akiva Goldsman (who also co-wrote the 1998 film) and Georgia Pritchett. Both Kidman and Bullock are also on board as producers, along with Denise Di Novi, who produced the original.
‘Practical Magic 2’ is scheduled to release in theatres on September 18, 2026 — a magical date fans are surely marking on their calendars.
