NIA Conducts Searches At 16 Locations In Tamil Nadu In ISIS Radicalisation Case

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India]: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 16 locations across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday as part of an investigation into an ISIS radicalisation case. The operation began early in the day following specific intelligence inputs.

The searches, carried out at suspected hideouts, aimed to gather evidence against individuals accused of promoting ISIS ideology and recruiting members, sources told media.

The NIA has been actively probing cases related to ISIS-linked radicalisation and recruitment in various states across India. This investigation stems from a case registered last year, focusing on ISIS supporters identified during an earlier inquiry.

In a related incident on October 21, 2022, the NIA arrested three individuals in connection with the ISIS-inspired car bomb blast in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The investigation revealed that the accused had conspired to fund and facilitate the execution of the terror attack.

Additionally, a separate investigation into radicalisation linked to this case resulted in the arrest and charge-sheeting of four more accused individuals.

The ongoing efforts reflect the NIA’s commitment to curbing terror activities and ensuring national security.
