NIA Chargesheets Four More In Praveen Nettaru Murder Case; Three Still Absconding

New Delhi [India]: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a second supplementary chargesheet against four more individuals in the 2022 murder case of BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Nettaru. Of the four accused, three are currently absconding.

In this latest development, Abdul Nasir, Naushad, Abdul Rahaman, and Ateeq Ahmed have been charged under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UA(P)A], 1967. This brings the total number of individuals chargesheeted in the case to 27, including six absconders.

The three newly chargesheeted absconders—Abdul Nasir, Naushad, and Abdul Rahaman—allegedly provided shelter to the main assailants in various locations across Karnataka (Mysore and Chamarajanagara districts) and Tamil Nadu (Erode district), according to NIA investigations.

Abdul Nasir and Abdul Rahaman were also found to have assisted in harbouring another accused, Thufail, in Bengaluru.

Additionally, after the fatal attack on Praveen Nettaru, accused Ateeq Ahmed and Kalandar (now deceased) reportedly conspired to harbor Mustafa Paichar in Chennai during 2022–23. The NIA further revealed that Abdul Rahaman fled to a foreign country and later guided another accused, Riyaz, in harboring Paichar again in 2024.

Praveen Nettaru was brutally murdered with sharp weapons on July 26, 2022, in Bellare village, located in the Sullia Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka.

The NIA took over the investigation from local police and continues its efforts to apprehend the remaining absconding accused as part of the ongoing probe.
