Neymar Extends Santos Contract Till 2026, Undergoes Knee Surgery After Helping Club Avoid Relegation

Brazilian football icon Neymar has officially extended his stay with boyhood club Santos until the end of 2026. The announcement came shortly after Santos secured their place in Brazil’s Serie A with a decisive 3-0 victory over Cruzeiro on Sunday, preventing what could have been only the second relegation in the club’s history.

The victory was particularly emotional for the club and its fans, as Santos — legendary home of the late Pelé — had suffered relegation for the first time in 2023, just a year after the football great’s passing. Neymar, who returned to Santos earlier this year, played an important role in their survival, scoring eight goals in the 19 league matches he played this season.

Alongside his contract extension, Neymar also grabbed headlines by displaying his extravagant luxury fleet. The collection includes a replica of Batman’s Batmobile from The Dark Knight Returns, valued at €1.3 million; a Dassault Falcon 900LX private jet worth around €40 million with his initials etched on it; and an Airbus H145 helicopter valued at €8 million. According to Spanish outlet Marca, the total value of the fleet stands at roughly €50 million (approximately ₹525 crore). The video showcasing his lavish assets was filmed at his luxurious mansion in Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro.

Neymar Undergoes Knee Surgery

A day after extending his contract, Santos confirmed that the 33-year-old had undergone minor surgery on his left knee. The procedure was performed by renowned doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, who is also associated with the Brazil national team. The arthroscopic surgery was minimally invasive and aimed at resolving joint issues that had sidelined Neymar for several games this year.

Neymar has been battling fitness challenges since tearing his ACL during World Cup qualifying in October 2023. Despite this, he has expressed strong optimism about returning to peak performance and fulfilling his World Cup dream.

Speaking recently at a music event in São Paulo, Neymar said he still hopes to play in the World Cup and even score in the final. He also sent a message to Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti, saying,
“We will do the impossible to bring this cup to Brazil. In July, you can remind us of it. Hi, Ancelotti, help us out!”

With his contract extension, recovery process underway, and determination stronger than ever, Neymar is gearing up for what could be one of the most crucial phases of his illustrious career.
