A horrifying case of alleged medical neglect has come to light in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. A private nursing facility reportedly gave a newborn baby the wrong injection, which means that her hand will have to be amputated.
The infant girl was taken to Gopal Nursing Home just days after she was born on October 5 because her health had gotten worse. Her family says that after hospital officials gave the baby an injection, her condition got more worse.
The family said that soon after, her hand started to swell and become blue. Hospital officials are said to have ignored their complaints and told them that the reaction was “normal.”
As the baby’s health got worse, her hand was wrapped up and she was sent to another hospital, and then to a third one. Doctors explained that by that time, her hand had grown very diseased and was about to rot, so the only medical choice was to cut it off.
Baleshwar Bhati, the baby’s father, has filed an official complaint with the police, saying that the nursing home was very careless and asking for strict action against its administration and medical staff.
The police have written to Gautam Buddha Nagar’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) asking for the creation of an investigating committee to look into the claims. Officials indicated that the report from the committee will decide what to do next in terms of legal action.
The upsetting situation has made many angry in the area, and there are calls for better accountability and greater control of private healthcare facilities in the area.
