Sergio Gor officially assumed his role as the United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy to South and Central Asia on Monday at a ceremony held at the US Embassy in New Delhi. His entry stood out, as the 1966 soul classic “Hold On, I’m Comin’” by Sam & Dave played in the background, drawing applause from attendees.
During his oath-taking, Gor emphasized the strong ties between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing their relationship as “genuine” and rooted at the highest political levels. “Real friends can disagree but always resolve their differences in the end,” he told ANI, highlighting the diplomatic importance of understanding and collaboration between the two nations.
Gor, a close Trump confidant, said he assumed the ambassadorial role with a clear focus on strengthening bilateral ties, stating, “It is great to be here as the United States Ambassador. I come to this remarkable nation with profound respect and a clear mission: to elevate the partnership between our two nations to the next level. This is the intersection between the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy.”
He also mentioned a potential Trump visit to India, joking about the time difference: “President Trump has a habit of calling at 2am, and with the time difference in New Delhi, that might work out pretty well.”
Sergio Gor brings a mix of political and business experience to the post. A trusted Trump ally, he previously led the Right for America PAC, worked closely with Donald Trump Jr., and served as a senior aide and communications director for Republican Senator Rand Paul. Gor is also the co-founder and CEO of Winning Team Publishing, promoting conservative voices. His background in both politics and business is expected to shape his approach to US-India trade and bilateral cooperation.
