New Details Emerge In Charlie Kirk Assassination, Suspect Confesses In Text Messages

In a big turn of events in the Charlie Kirk murder case, prosecutors say that Tyler Robinson, the man suspected of the crime, admitted to it in a series of disturbing text messages to his roommate and lover, Lance Twiggs. According to a Tuesday indictment, Robinson left a concealed message for Twiggs before the murder that contained the confession.

The New York Post got the indictment, which describes a terrifying conversation that happened less than three hours after the massacre on September 10. Robinson sent Twiggs a message that said, “Stop what you’re doing and look under my keyboard.” Twiggs uncovered a message that said, “I had the chance to kill Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to do it.” The text texts show that Twiggs knew Robinson was involved in the murder more than a day before the police caught him.

The Text Message Exchange

The indictment includes a transcript of the exchange, which started when Twiggs texted Robinson to ask if the note was a “joke.” Robinson is said to have said, “I’m still okay, my love, but I have to stay in Orem for a little while longer.” I should be able to come home soon, but I still need to get my gun. Honestly, I wanted to keep this a secret till I died of old age. I’m sorry to bring you into this.

When Twiggs asked Robinson directly if he had killed Kirk, Robinson’s answer was straightforward and clear: “I am.” Sorry.

More texts from Robinson gave more information about the incident, such as how he hid the murder weapon—a scoped.30-06-caliber hunting rifle that belonged to his grandfather—in some bushes after changing clothing. He was anxious that he wouldn’t be able to get the gun back because the police had closed off the area. He wrote, “I’m worried what my old man would do if I didn’t bring back grandpa’s rifle… how the f— will I explain losing it to my old man?”

What it means for the law and politics

Robinson is being charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily damage, and obstruction of justice. The indictment lists three of the seven counts against him. He is suspected of killing Kirk, 31, with a gun during a student Q&A at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem.

Authorities said that Lance Twiggs, who is changing from male to female, is working with the investigation and has not been charged with the crime. Robinson wrote to Twiggs before turning himself in, saying, “[Y]ou are all I worry about love.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox has promised to seek the death sentence in reaction to the assassination. “We will locate you, whomever did this. Cox stated, “We will try you, and we will hold you responsible to the fullest extent of the law.” “I just want to remind people that the death penalty is still legal in Utah.”
