Netizens Slam “Tacky” and “Too Much Gold” in White House Video of Current Trump Oval Office

A video released by the White House showcasing the current Oval Office under former President Donald Trump has drawn significant attention and criticism on social media, with many users branding the decor as “tacky” and featuring “too much gold.”

The footage, widely circulated after its release, provides a close-up look at the Oval Office, highlighting walls covered with prominent gold decorations.

Trump Claims “Highest Quality 24 Karat Gold”

In a post shared in September, Trump himself had lauded the interior design, stating the Oval Office and Cabinet Room featured “some of the highest quality 24 Karat Gold.” He further claimed that visiting world leaders and “everyone else, ‘freak out’ when they see the quality and beauty,” concluding, “Best Oval Office ever, in terms of success and look!!! President DJT.”

Social Media Reacts to the Opulence

Despite the former President’s praise, social media users offered overwhelmingly negative critiques of the aesthetic. Comments frequently called the lavish decorations “tacky” and “cheap looking.”

  • “I think it’s tacky, but Trump has NEVER had good taste,” one user wrote.
  • “Too much gold, its tacky,” commented another.
  • One user suggested the room had lost its historical dignity: “The Oval Office used to feel presidential — now it looks like a podcast set with taxpayer lighting.”
  • Another critic, identifying as a life-long Republican, wrote, “I think it’s tacky. And cheap looking. And I’m a life long republican. Gold does NOT = Style.”

The general consensus among critics was that the excessive use of gold ornamentation detracted from the room’s traditional style and sense of presidential decorum.
