Reports say that Israel’s political officials have told the military to cut back on its offensive operations in the Gaza Strip. This is a big step that suggests the almost two-year conflict is coming to an end. The government is getting ready to “immediately implement” the first stage of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which is why this decision was made.
This news comes after a big diplomatic breakthrough on Friday when Hamas said it would accept several important parts of the planned peace deal.
Netanyahu’s Office Promises to Work Together Fully
The Israeli Prime Minister’s office said on Saturday that Israel would work “in full cooperation” with President Trump to stop the war. This would make sure that the termination of hostilities is in line with Israel’s values. According to the news agency AP, this reaction shows that both sides are committed to moving forward with the first phases of the American-led plan.
Trump Wants Bombing to Stop Right Away
The drop in Israeli military activity comes after President Trump’s direct and unusual request on Friday. After Hamas said they would accept, Trump told Israel in public to stop attacking Gaza right away. He said it was too hazardous to do the operations needed to free the remaining detainees safely.
Trump wrote on social media, “I think they are ready for a lasting PEACE.”
He went on to say, “Israel must stop bombing Gaza right away so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly!” It’s too hazardous to do that right now. We are already talking about the details that need to be sorted out.
Hamas agrees to let the hostages free and wants to talk more.
Hamas’s conditional acceptance is based on the promise to free all the captives who were abducted during the attack on October 7, 2023, and its willingness to give up control of the government to other Palestinians.
The party did say, though, that some important parts of the Trump proposal required more talks between the Palestinian groups. This suggests that high-ranking Hamas officials still have big disagreements that need to be worked out through discussions. Hamas’s acceptance didn’t specify disarming, which is a key part of the broader Trump deal.
