Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement Thursday evening, welcoming home three Israelis—Agam Berger, Arbel Yehud, and Gadi Moses—who were released from captivity in Gaza earlier in the day.
“Agam, Arbel, Gadi—welcome home,” Netanyahu said. “The entire State of Israel embraces you, as do my wife Sara and I.”
The Prime Minister credited the release to the efforts of Israeli soldiers and the firm stance taken during negotiations. “This release was achieved, first of all, thanks to our heroic soldiers, and it was also achieved thanks to the steadfast and determined stand that we took during the negotiations,” he stated.
However, Netanyahu also criticized Hamas over the conditions of the release, expressing strong disapproval of the chaos that the freed Israelis encountered. “We will not accept violations of the agreement. During the release of our hostages today, we all saw shocking scenes. We made it clear to the mediators that we do not intend to accept any risk to our hostages.”
Emphasizing Israel’s position on the safety of its citizens, he warned, “And I will add: Whoever dares to harm our hostages—will pay the price.”
