Kathmandu [Nepal], June 19: In response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, the Government of Nepal has issued a travel advisory for its citizens currently residing in, or planning to travel to, the conflict-affected countries.
Released late Wednesday night, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nepali nationals in Israel and Iran to exercise extreme caution, advising them to remain indoors, avoid non-essential movement, and adhere to safety advisories issued by the respective host governments.
The advisory further instructed Nepalis in the region to stay informed via official security updates, maintain communication with the Nepali community, and keep close contact with the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv. It emphasized the importance of registering their personal information online via links available on the Ministry’s website, the Department of Consular Services, and the Embassy—facilitating tracking and emergency response.
“For those currently in Nepal and planning to travel to Israel, Iran, or other Middle Eastern countries, the government strongly advises against travel until the situation stabilises,” the ministry said.
While no casualties among Nepali nationals have been reported, the government assured that it is closely monitoring the situation and will implement protective measures if needed. Due to possible disruptions in air routes, Nepali citizens returning home may need to transit through a third country. In such cases, travelers are advised to secure a transit visa in advance.
The ministry stated that updates and further guidance will be shared through official platforms, including its website: www.mofa.gov.np.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy in Tel Aviv has begun collecting information from citizens in Israel and Iran who wish to return to Nepal.
“In view of the recent developments, the embassy has initiated the process of collecting information to facilitate rescue, repatriation and necessary support,” the notice read.
Approximately 5,500 Nepali citizens live and work in Israel, a popular destination for foreign employment. Official records show that 11 Nepali citizens reside in Iran, including five currently in jail.
The advisory follows Israel’s launch of Operation Rising Lion on June 13, a preemptive strike on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz subsequently declared a nationwide state of emergency, citing the threat posed by Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, which Israeli officials claim could be weaponized in a matter of days.
