Nepal on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling the incident “barbaric” and reaffirming its firm opposition to terrorism in all forms.
In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said:
“Nepal unequivocally condemns the barbaric terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and express our sincere wishes for the swift and full recovery of those injured.”
The ministry further reiterated Nepal’s principled stance against terrorism, stating that “heinous acts of terrorism cannot and should not be justified on any ground.”
Verification Underway for Possible Nepali Victims
Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba confirmed that the government is verifying reports of possible Nepali nationals being affected in the incident. In her statement on X, she said:
“We are currently verifying reports regarding the possible loss of any Nepali nationals in this tragic incident. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
PM KP Sharma Oli: Nepal Stands Firmly with India
Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also extended his condolences and firm support to India, writing on X:
“Deepest condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Nepal stands firmly with India & strongly condemn any & all acts of terrorism. Close coordination is established to verify reports of a Nepali national among the victims & will provide all necessary assistance.”
India Responds with Heightened Security
Following the attack, which occurred Tuesday afternoon in the tourist hotspot of Pahalgam, security forces sealed the area and launched intensive search operations to track down the terrorists. Checkpoints have been established at all exit routes to prevent escape, and aerial surveillance continues.
The attack led Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cut short his two-day state visit to Saudi Arabia, skipping an official dinner hosted by the Kingdom and returning to India early Wednesday morning to review the situation with top security officials.
