Washington, DC [US], March 6: The makers of Neil Young’s 2023 “Coastal” tour documentary have dropped a new trailer ahead of its April 17 debut in select theaters. The film offers an intimate look at the folk-rock legend’s 15 solo concerts along the West Coast, capturing both the high-energy concert scenes and behind-the-scenes moments leading up to each performance, reported Variety.
In the newly released black-and-white trailer, Young, reflecting on his return to the stage after nearly four years, admits, “It’s going to be the first time I play in front of anybody in almost four years. I’m petrified.” The documentary, directed by Young’s wife, actor and filmmaker Daryl Hannah, provides a deeply personal perspective on the singer’s journey back to performing post-COVID.
Produced by Gary Ward and edited by Rachel Simmer, the film also features cinematography by Adam CK Vollick and Hannah. Described as a “personal, behind-the-scenes” experience, the documentary not only focuses on Young’s performances but also offers rare glimpses into his private moments during the tour.
In addition to the documentary, a companion soundtrack album will be released a day after its one-night-only screening, featuring 11 tracks from Young’s setlist, including “Vampire Blues,” “I Am a Child,” “Expecting to Fly,” “Song X,” and “Prime of Life.” The film originally premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival last year, where it was hailed as an insider’s look at Young’s comeback to live performance after the pandemic.
Daryl Hannah, known for her roles in films like Blade Runner, Splash, Wall Street, Steel Magnolias, and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (for which she won a Saturn Award), has established herself as both an accomplished actor and filmmaker.
