Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 10: Acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan’s latest project Homebound, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter in lead roles, has officially been selected for the prestigious 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The film will be screened in the Un Certain Regard section, a category dedicated to showcasing distinctive and artistic global cinema.
The official Cannes lineup for 2025 was unveiled on Thursday and includes cinematic heavyweights such as Wes Anderson and Ari Aster alongside Homebound, marking a proud moment for Indian cinema on the international stage.
Expressing their joy, both Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter took to Instagram to share the news with fans.
Describing his role as the “most challenging” of his career, Ishaan wrote:
“A film that I knew was special from the moment it entered my life… pure intention, grit, compassion, and truth. One of the proudest moments of my cinematic journey so far, led by my friend with a beautiful mind — @neerajghaywan. This also marks my homecoming with @karanjohar and @dharmamovies after 7 years.”
Janhvi Kapoor also shared her excitement on social media:
“A moment where Indian cinema takes over the world. We are honored to announce that Homebound makes its way to the official selection at the 78th edition of the Festival de Cannes in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ category. Our hearts are full, and we can’t wait to show you all this journey on the big screen!”
For Neeraj Ghaywan, this marks a special return to Cannes. His debut film Masaan had previously won accolades in the same category back in 2015, making Homebound his second feature to earn a spot at the festival.
Homebound is both written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and stars Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier.
The 78th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to run from May 13 to May 24, 2025.
