Switzerland’s Zurich: On Thursday, August 28, star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will compete in the Diamond League (DL) Final in Zurich, Switzerland. He will be up against some tough challengers as he tries to win back the Diamond Trophy. The current world champion, who won the title in 2022 but came in second in both 2023 and 2024, has made it to the final in fourth position.
Anderson Peters of Grenada, a two-time world champion and the current Diamond League champion, and Julian Weber of Germany are two of Chopra’s biggest competitors. The fight between Chopra and Weber has been one of the best parts of the 2025 season. Chopra threw 90.23m at the Doha leg in May, which was more beyond 90m, but Weber won the event with a throw of 91.06m. Chopra later won the Paris leg in June with a throw of 88.16m.
Andrian Mardare (Moldova), Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad & Tobago), and Julius Yego (Kenya) are also in the final. The host country has recruited Swiss thrower Simon Wieland to the field.
Chopra’s last competition came on July 5 at the NC Classic in Bengaluru, which he hosted. He won with a throw of 86.18m. The 27-year-old has competed in six events during the 2025 season, winning four and coming in second in two of them. He is now the World Athletics World No. 1 in men’s javelin.
The Diamond League Final is a competition where the victor of each of the 32 events gets the famous Diamond Trophy and a wild card ticket to the next World Championships. The winner of the men’s javelin will also get $30,000 in prize money. Chopra will focus on defending his world title at the World Championships in Tokyo, which will take place from September 13 to 21, after the Diamond League Final.
