Neeraj Chopra, the current champion and two-time Olympic medalist, has officially made it to the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, Switzerland. The javelin thrower missed the last Diamond League tournament in Silesia, Poland, but he did make it to the one that everyone was looking forward to. It will take place on the 27th and 28th of August.
Even though the winner has been confirmed as qualified, it is still not clear if he will compete in the Brussels competition on August 22. So yet, just three competitors have officially qualified for the six open spots. Keshorn Walcott from Trinbago is in the lead with 17 points. Julian Weber from Germany comes next with 15 points, while Neeraj Chopra comes next with 14 points. In the end, they all made it.
Even though Chopra wasn’t there, Julius Yego from Kenya won the Silesia tournament with a throw of 83.60 meters. In that order, Keshorn Walcott (82.54m) and Andrian Mardare (82.38m) from Moldova came in second and third.
The battle for the last three spots is still going strong. Anderson Peters from Granada (13 points), Julius Yego from Brazil (11 points), Andrian Mardare from Brazil (8 points), Luiz Mauricio Da Silva from Brazil (6 points), and Dawid Wegner from Poland (5 points) are all athletes who want to win in Zurich.
Even though Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan hasn’t scored any points this season, he is definitely out of the competition for the final. He hasn’t been in any Diamond League events since he had surgery in the UK.
So far, Neeraj Chopra has had a great year. He threw 90.23 meters in May, which was the best throw of his life, but Julian Weber beat him. He won the Paris leg in June with a throw of 88.16 meters and the first NC Classic in July with a throw of 86.18 meters.
After the Diamond League Final, Chopra will focus on defending his World Championships crown in Tokyo next month. The event will happen in September.
