NCP Leaders Meet Amit Shah Amid Mahayuti’s Electoral Triumph in Maharashtra

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday. The meeting comes in the wake of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance’s resounding victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Meeting Highlights

Praful Patel shared updates about the meeting on his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), along with pictures of the leaders.
“A privilege to meet Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji today in Delhi, alongside NCP National President and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajitdada Pawar, State President Shri Sunil Tatkare, and Rajya Sabha MP Smt Sunetra Pawar. A great exchange of ideas for Maharashtra’s development,” Patel wrote.

Devendra Fadnavis on Mahayuti’s Victory

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the Mahayuti’s landslide win, describing it as exceeding expectations. Speaking at the India Economic Conclave hosted by Times Network, Fadnavis attributed the alliance’s success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan, “Ek hai toh safe hai” (Unity ensures safety), which he said resonated like “magic” across the state.
“We anticipated a win, but not on this scale. Securing 132 seats as the BJP alone surpassed our expectations,” Fadnavis stated.

Election Results

The Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 saw the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance achieve a decisive victory, securing 235 out of 288 seats. Key highlights include:

  • BJP: Emerged as the single-largest party with 132 seats.
  • Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction): Secured 57 seats.
  • Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction: Won 41 seats.

In contrast, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a major defeat:

  • Congress: Secured only 16 seats.
  • Shiv Sena (UBT): Managed 20 seats.
  • NCP (Sharad Pawar faction): Won just 10 seats.

Significance of the Meeting

The meeting between Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, and Amit Shah is seen as a strategic dialogue following the electoral win, focusing on Maharashtra’s development and aligning the state’s agenda with the central government. Analysts suggest it underscores the Mahayuti’s commitment to governance amidst political realignments.

As Maharashtra enters this new political phase, the BJP-led coalition’s focus remains on delivering development promises while consolidating its position in the state.
