NCERT’s New Module On ‘Operation Sindoor’ Links Pakistan To Pahalgam Terror Attack

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released new educational modules on “Operation Sindoor” that will be taught to students from Classes 3 to 12. These modules have quickly become a subject of discussion, as they directly allege Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack, which led to the military operation.

According to a report from PTI, the module frames Operation Sindoor not just as a military response but as “a promise to protect peace and honour the lives lost.” However, the most striking part of the text is its direct accusation against Pakistan. The NCERT module states, “Pakistan denied any involvement in Pahalgam terror attack but it was directly ordered by its military and political leadership.”

As per a report by The Print, the educational material has been divided into two separate modules to cater to different age groups. The module for students in Classes 3 to 8 is titled “Operation Sindoor—A Saga of Valour,” while the one for students of Classes 9 to 12 is called “Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery.”

This new material follows another recent controversial module released by NCERT last week. That special module, for “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,” created a major stir between the Congress and the BJP. It stated that the Partition was caused by three parties: “Jinnah, who demanded it; second, the Congress, which accepted it; and third, Mountbatten, who implemented it.”

Both the partition module and the new Operation Sindoor module are designed as supplementary readings, meaning they are not part of the main, mandatory curriculum but are provided to students as additional resources.

Background on Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was the Indian military’s response to a deadly terror attack that occurred on April 22. In the attack, a group of terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam’s Baisaran valley, tragically killing 25 Indians and one Nepali tourist.

In retaliation, the Indian armed forces launched strikes targeting terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in May. This series of events led to a tense military stand-off between India and Pakistan, pushing the two nations to the brink of a fifth war. After four days of intense hostilities, both sides eventually reached a ceasefire agreement.
