Emotional Tributes at Lamochen Viewpoint
Families of soldiers who died in the 1999 Kargil War came on Friday at Lamochen Viewpoint in Drass, Jammu and Kashmir, to pay their respects. This made the event even more melancholy. The moving event, carefully planned to celebrate the bravery and selflessness of the Indian Armed Forces, was filled with heartbreaking memories from the families of the dead heroes.
Rajesh, the brother of a soldier who died at Tiger Hill, read a very poignant entry from his brother’s journal. “My brother died while serving his country in the line of duty at Tiger Hill. We wrote him a letter when we heard about the war, but he said he wasn’t involved. We found out he was in the war and lied to us to protect us from worrying after reading his diary. Rajesh said, “He wrote that he didn’t think he would come down the hill and gave his diary to a friend before going up.” His voice was full with emotion.
Surekha Shinde, another family member who was there, said how proud and thankful she was to commemorate her brother, who had served for five years before the Kargil War. “My brother had been in the military for five years before the war started. “I am proud to be here, and I thank the army for inviting me,” she remarked.
The meeting at Lamochen Viewpoint was a strong reminder of how brave and selfless Indian soldiers were during the Kargil conflict, which took place in some of the world’s most difficult high-altitude terrain.
The Story of Operation Vijay Kargil Every year on July 26, people celebrate Vijay Diwas to remember the day in 1999 when India successfully finished Operation Vijay. throughout this military action, the Indian Armed Forces took back crucial heights in the Kargil-Siachen regions that had been treacherously seized by Pakistani intruders throughout the severe winter months.
The Kargil War, which lasted more than 60 days from May to July 1999, is known not just for its strategic and tactical surprises, but also for India’s self-imposed national strategy of restraint, which kept the fighting to the Kargil-Siachen areas. India won a brave victory thanks to the quickly put into action three-services military plan.
Operation Safed Sagar, which was the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) code name for its air operations during the 1999 Kargil War, was a key part of India’s reaction. Operation Safed Sagar, which started on May 26, 1999, was the first time that air power has been used on a wide scale in Kashmir since the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. It clearly showed that air power could change the course of war, even without crossing international borders, and that limited employment of air assets in a small conflict could be very effective.
The Kargil War is a monument to the bravery and commitment of the Indian Armed Forces, whose ultimate sacrifice protected the nation’s integrity and independence.
