Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India]: Sunil Narine delivered a phenomenal all-round performance to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a convincing eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2025 encounter held in Chennai on Friday. The win marked KKR’s third of the season from six matches and propelled them to third position on the points table.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Narine set the tone with a masterclass in spin bowling. The experienced campaigner returned with figures of 3/13 in four overs, tightening the screws during the middle phase and ensuring CSK never got going. His efforts played a key role in restricting CSK to a below-par total of 103/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
But Narine didn’t stop there. Opening the innings with Quinton de Kock, he turned aggressor with the bat, hammering 44 runs off just 19 deliveries. His innings featured two boundaries and five massive sixes, and his 46-run partnership with de Kock laid the foundation for a swift chase. KKR comfortably chased down the target in just 10.1 overs, significantly boosting their Net Run Rate in the process.
At the post-match presentation, Narine was named Player of the Match and reflected on his performance.
“Almost [a complete game], next time hope I can take a catch as well. Try to focus on my strength. Batters play well but if you focus too much on batters, you are already on the back foot. You get accustomed and try to adapt as soon as possible,” he said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
When asked about his role at the top of the order, he added:
“It’s very simple — trying to get the team off to a flying start. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
Narine’s stellar contributions with both ball and bat left CSK with no answers on the night, underscoring his enduring value as a match-winner in the KKR squad.
