Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 22: Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Naman Dhir voiced his confidence in the team’s championship prospects after their commanding 59-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 league stage clash.
“Yes, the team is very happy,” said Dhir during the post-match press conference. “If MI is playing, you should expect us to qualify for the playoffs. We are looking forward to the next four games — to win and to win this tournament,” he added, eyeing MI’s potential sixth IPL title.
Dhir played a crucial finishing role with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 24 runs off just 8 balls, including two boundaries and two sixes. His late fireworks helped Mumbai post a formidable 180/5 at the Wankhede Stadium.
The highlight of MI’s batting was Suryakumar Yadav’s stellar unbeaten 73 off 43 deliveries, decorated with 7 fours and 4 sixes, which stabilized the innings after a moderate start. Delhi bowlers, especially in the final overs, lost control — Mukesh Kumar leaked 27 runs in the penultimate over and Dushmantha Chameera conceded 21 in the final over.
Chasing 181, Delhi Capitals faltered early, losing their top three wickets for just 27 runs. Faf du Plessis (6), KL Rahul (11), and Abhishek Porel (6) all fell cheaply. The innings never recovered, despite a gritty 39 from Sameer Rizvi and a cameo from Vipraj Nigam (20).
Delhi were bowled out for 121 in 18.4 overs. Mumbai’s bowling attack was relentless, led by Jasprit Bumrah (3/12 in 3.2 overs) and Mitchell Santner (3/11 in 4 overs). The support came from Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks, and Karn Sharma, who each took a wicket.
With this win, MI clinched the final spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs, joining Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings in the knockout stage.
Mumbai will face Punjab Kings in their final league match and are aiming for a top-two finish, which would give them the advantage of playing Qualifier 1 — a win there would take them directly to the final.
