Nagpur – A frightening video has been going around on social media that shows a young man in Nagpur hitting and slapping his father again and over. The viral video shows the man tugging his father’s hair and grabbing him by the neck while his mother sits nearby and doesn’t do anything.
Officials from the Shanti Nagar police immediately found the man’s residence after the video started going around on Monday, even though no official complaint had been made. When they got there, they talked to the victim, who said that nothing like that had ever happened and that he didn’t want to bring charges against his son. The man’s mother also said that the situation was a “family matter” and questioned why the cops were there.
Even if the family didn’t want to help, the cops did anything. They gave the boy a strong warning and counselling, making it plain that he could not hurt his parents. The police’s involvement, even without a formal complaint, shows how worried people are about elder exploitation and how important it is for law enforcement to step in when victims might not want to speak up.
This tragedy has once again brought the subject of elder abuse to the forefront, especially when family members are the ones who do it. One of the biggest problems for police and social workers who work on these kinds of situations is that the victim doesn’t want to submit a complaint.
