Mylswamy Annadurai Hails Axiom-4’s Progress, Says Safe Docking At ISS Is Key Next Step

Former ISRO scientist Mylswamy Annadurai on Wednesday praised the successful launch and ongoing progress of the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), describing it as a “proud moment for every Indian” and affirming that all systems are operating smoothly.

Speaking to media shortly after the Falcon 9 rocket’s launch from Florida, Annadurai emphasized the importance of the upcoming safe docking of the Dragon spacecraft with the ISS, scheduled for tomorrow.

“Everything went as planned… Safe docking at the International Space Station tomorrow is the main thing expected now… Every Indian is happy,” he said.

Annadurai lauded the performance of the Falcon 9 and Dragon capsule, commending the stability of the launch and successful recovery of the rocket’s first stage.

“This particular Dragon vehicle is a new one, and it is going very smoothly… The first stage was recovered successfully. Everything is progressing as expected,” he added.

The Axiom-4 mission marks a historic milestone for India, with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla becoming the first Indian astronaut to travel to the ISS. During his stay, he will conduct seven scientific experiments, contributing to India’s growing role in international space exploration.

Shukla’s emotional remarks, stating that “The Tiranga embossed on my shoulders tells me that I am with all of you”, were highlighted by Annadurai, who compared it to the emotional moment when India planted the Tricolour on the Moon.

“Whether it’s at the Olympics or in space, the Tricolour brings pride… This moment is for every Indian across the globe. That ‘Indianness’ connects us all,” Annadurai said.

The Dragon capsule is expected to gradually approach the ISS and dock safely by 4:30 PM tomorrow. According to mission updates, all four crew members, including Shukla, are in good health.

India’s increasing engagement in human spaceflight—highlighted by the Gaganyaan programme and participation in missions like Axiom-4—continues to inspire pride and scientific ambition across the nation.
