Aftershocks Following Deadly 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake

The latest tremor follows the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, killing over 1,600 people and injuring thousands, as reported by CNN.

The Mandalay region, which was near the epicenter, remains in crisis, with 68 people still missing, according to Myanmar’s military junta. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has warned that the death toll could exceed 10,000 based on early models.

Myanmar Military Junta Appeals for International Aid

Given the widespread destruction, Myanmar’s military government has made an urgent plea for international assistance. The USGS issued a red alert, indicating high casualties and extensive damage.

Tremors from the initial earthquake and subsequent aftershocks were felt in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, and China’s Yunnan province, highlighting the widespread impact of the disaster.

Series of Aftershocks and Infrastructure Damage

🔴 At least 14 aftershocks have hit Myanmar since Friday’s major earthquake, according to an interactive USGS map.
🔴 The strongest aftershock measured 6.7 in magnitude, occurring 10 minutes after the main quake.
🔴 Other significant tremors included a 4.9 and 6.7 magnitude earthquake, striking 20 miles from Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city.
🔴 Reports confirm severe structural damage in multiple regions.

The humanitarian crisis continues to unfold as rescue teams struggle to reach affected areas, facing challenges due to the country’s civil unrest and infrastructure collapse. International organizations are preparing to deliver aid, but logistical and political obstacles remain a significant challenge.
