Germany’s Former Envoy Bernd Mützelburg Condemns Terrorism, Welcomes India’s All-Party Delegation Post Pahalgam Attack

Former German Ambassador to India Bernd Mützelburg strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, calling terrorism a heinous crime that must be universally denounced. His comments came as a cross-party Indian delegation arrived in Germany to explain India’s stance and emphasize global unity against terrorism following Operation Sindoor.

“Terrorism, in whatever form and however it is being put forward, is a heinous crime and must be condemned by everybody. There can be no excuse for committing terrorism against the civilian population,” Mützelburg told media.

“Time to Stand Together Against Terrorism”

Highlighting the urgency of global collaboration, Mützelburg emphasized that terrorism remains one of the gravest shared security challenges.

“We’ve really got to stand together against this enormous challenge and fight it wherever we can,” he said. He also praised the strategic partnership between India and Germany, established 30 years ago, and stressed that it must now “cope with the security challenges we face together.”

India’s Diplomatic Push Post-Operation Sindoor

The comments were made during the visit of a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, which landed in Germany after meetings in Brussels. The delegation is part of India’s global outreach after the Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians.

The delegation includes:

  • BJP MPs: Daggubati Purandeswari, MJ Akbar, Gulam Ali Khatana, Samik Bhattacharya
  • Congress MP: Amar Singh
  • Shiv Sena (UBT): Priyanka Chaturvedi
  • AIADMK MP: M Thambidurai
  • Former diplomat: Pankaj Saran

“A Fully Democratic Delegation”

Mützelburg praised the delegation’s bipartisan nature, calling it a “wonderful symbol” of India’s democratic values and growing ties with Germany.

“It is very important that after this horrendous and heinous crime, they come here to explain the situation to us,” he added. “A delegation that reflects the values of India is here—we are pleased to listen to them.”

India’s Firm Response Through Operation Sindoor

In response to the terror strike, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The operation resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Earlier in Brussels, Ravi Shankar Prasad called out Pakistan’s military establishment for operating a “military-terrorist coalition”, labeling it a threat to democracy and humanity.

Building a Unified Front

The German former ambassador’s support adds to the growing international recognition of India’s efforts to combat terrorism and promote strategic global partnerships. As India continues to engage with democratic allies post-Pahalgam, the push for a unified global front against terrorism gains critical momentum.
