Mustafabad Building Collapse: Delhi Mayor, CM Order Probe, Vow Action Against Negligence


New Delhi [India], April 19: Delhi Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khinchi expressed deep grief over the tragic building collapse in Mustafabad that claimed four lives, calling the incident “extremely heartbreaking.” In a post on social media platform X, Khinchi announced that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner has been directed to investigate the incident and suspend any officials found negligent.

“The incident of the building collapse in Mustafabad is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident,” he posted.

The mayor also urged AAP workers in Mustafabad to actively support the administration in ongoing relief and rescue efforts.

Earlier in the day, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal shared similar sentiments, calling for full cooperation from party workers and expressing sorrow over the incident.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also issued a condolence message, vowing strict action against those responsible.

“The heart is deeply saddened by the tragic incident… Orders have been given to investigate the incident, and strict action will be ensured against the culprits,” Gupta posted on X.

She added that teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, and other agencies are engaged in continuous rescue efforts.

As of the latest updates, 14 people have been rescued, while four succumbed to their injuries. Officials estimate that 12 individuals may still be trapped under the debris.

NDRF Deputy Inspector General Mohsen Shahedi highlighted the challenges of operating in a densely packed neighborhood.

“This is a congested area, and we are facing difficulties in the movement of heavy machinery. But we are hopeful of saving lives,” he told ANI.

The rescue operation remains ongoing as teams work tirelessly to reach those still trapped.
