Mustafabad Building Collapse: 4 Dead, Deputy Speaker Promises Compensation, Blames MCD Negligence

New Delhi [India], April 19: A tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Mustafabad area claimed the lives of four people early Saturday morning. In response, Delhi Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and local MLA Mohan Singh Bisht assured that appropriate compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased.

The multi-storey building collapsed around 3:00 AM, with fourteen people rescued, but four succumbed to injuries, according to Additional DCP Sandeep Lamba. Officials fear that 8 to 10 people may still be trapped under the debris, and rescue operations are ongoing, involving teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Police, and Delhi Fire Services.

Deputy Speaker Bisht, who visited the collapse site, said he had warned authorities three months ago after his election victory, citing the building as a potential hazard.

“I had informed the Delhi LG and MCD Commissioner to take action. This incident has exposed the negligence of MCD,” Bisht told ANI.

He criticized the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and power companies, accusing them of corruption and neglect.

“Mustafabad is full of accident-prone buildings. Illegal construction is rampant. Power companies deny connections to the poor, yet electric poles are installed inside unsafe homes,” he added.

Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer, confirmed that his team received a distress call around 2:50 AM.

“The entire building had collapsed. Our teams, along with the NDRF, are actively engaged in rescue operations,” he said.

Authorities continue to clear debris and search for survivors, as the tragedy raises serious questions about urban safety, illegal constructions, and administrative accountability in one of Delhi’s most densely populated neighborhoods.
