Kolkata (West Bengal) [India]: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Agnimitra Paul has launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the recent Murshidabad violence is a case of “state-sponsored terrorism” and demanding an NIA investigation.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Paul said:
“The situation in West Bengal today is such that atrocities are being committed against Hindus. This is state-sponsored terrorism. Hindu genocide is being done by the Muslims. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has done this.”
Drawing parallels with recent arrests of political leaders, she questioned:
“If Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren can go to jail, why can’t Mamata Banerjee be jailed for violence in the state?”
Allegations of Political Diversion and Vote Bank Politics
Paul also claimed that the violence was premeditated and aimed at diverting public attention from the SSC recruitment scam, which allegedly resulted in 26,000 job losses.
“The planning for this violence was done over three months. They were waiting, and the Waqf Amendment Bill became the trigger. Mamata Banerjee orchestrated this for vote bank politics. Why has she not provided the 400 km of international border fencing?” she asked.
She further highlighted recent arrests of terrorists in Assam as a sign of the growing security threat, allegedly exacerbated by the state’s policies.
National Concern and Call for NIA Investigation
The remarks came a day after a visit by National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar to relief camps in Malda, where families displaced by the violence have taken refuge.
Rahatkar emphasized the need for empathy and accountability:
“Everyone should be sensitive towards women… this kind of situation arises when there is a lack of sensitivity.”
Paul reiterated the need for central intervention:
“Jihadis are burning the houses of Sanatani people, shops, and temples. Is this Syria, Afghanistan, or Pakistan? The NIA must investigate so that the truth comes out.”
Background
Violence broke out in Murshidabad on April 11, during protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act, leaving three dead, several injured, and widespread property damage. Many families fled to Jharkhand’s Pakur district, while others were moved to temporary camps in Malda.
