Mumbai Police Visit Ranveer Allahbadia’s Residence Amidst Controversy Over ‘India’s Got Latent’ Show

Mumbai (Maharashtra), February 11: A team from the Mumbai Police visited the residence of YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia following the controversy surrounding his offensive comments made on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent’. This visit comes after a formal complaint was filed against Allahbadia and others involved in the show, triggering significant backlash and calls for legal action and even a ban on the show.

The controversy began when Allahbadia, known for his YouTube channel BeerBiceps, made inappropriate remarks during a recent episode of the show. The comments were deemed offensive by many viewers, leading to widespread outrage. Ashish Chanchlani’s lawyer, Apurva, also visited the Khar Police Station in Mumbai, where the studio filming the show falls under jurisdiction.

The formal complaint was filed by a lawyer on Monday against Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina (the host of the show), and the organizers of ‘India’s Got Latent’. The complaint cites the offensive language used during the show, which has sparked outrage.

In response to the uproar, All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned Allahbadia’s remarks, calling them “abhorrent” and “disrespectful” to societal values. In a statement, AICWA called for a ban on the show and legal action against those responsible. The statement read, “Such disgraceful content is utterly unacceptable and poses a significant threat to the moral fabric of our society.”

AICWA further urged the industry to cease collaboration with those associated with the show, including host Samay Raina and Allahbadia.

In an effort to address the controversy, Allahbadia posted a public apology on his X account. He admitted that his comments were inappropriate and not funny, acknowledging the mistake. He expressed regret over his lapse in judgment and promised to be more responsible in using his platform in the future, especially regarding his influence on younger audiences.

“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry,” Allahbadia said. He also requested that the producers of the show remove the insensitive sections from the episode.

In addition to AICWA’s condemnation, a formal complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, alleging that the show used abusive language and made obscene remarks about women in an attempt to gain popularity and financial benefit through online broadcasts.

The complainant has demanded strict action against those involved in the show, especially concerning the remarks made by Allahbadia and host Samay Raina.
