Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 2: Mumbai Police have issued a third notice to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, asking him to appear on April 5 for questioning regarding his remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his stand-up special “Naya Bharat” on YouTube.
According to officials, Kamra was previously summoned twice but failed to appear. The investigation is examining whether the comedian has made similar satirical comments about other politicians, actors, or sportspersons, with possible legal action pending the findings.
Three separate cases have been filed against Kamra at Khar Police Station—one by Jalgaon city’s Mayor and two by a Nashik-based hotelier and businessman. Kamra’s lawyer has contacted the authorities, but the comedian has not personally communicated with the police.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail until April 7 in connection with multiple FIRs filed against him. Kamra had sought bail, citing threats following his recent satirical remarks, including a controversial “gaddar” (traitor) joke allegedly targeting Shinde. The remarks have drawn strong criticism from political leaders demanding legal action.
