Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 16: Mumbai Police have identified a suspect involved in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, revealing that the motive behind the incident was an attempted burglary.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 9, Dixit Gedam, addressed the media, stating that the accused had entered the building using the fire escape staircase. He confirmed that the investigation points to the attack being part of an attempted burglary.
“We have identified one accused, who used the staircase to enter the building. The motive seems to be an attempted burglary. We are working hard to arrest the suspect, and once he is captured, we will release more details. Currently, 10 detection teams are working across different locations to locate him,” DCP Gedam said.
The incident occurred at Saif Ali Khan’s residence in the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building in Bandra, where the intruder allegedly confronted Khan’s maid. When the actor intervened to defuse the situation, it escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Khan sustaining injuries. He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital for medical treatment.
Dr. Nitin Dange, a consultant at Lilavati Hospital, provided an update on Khan’s condition. He revealed that the actor suffered a severe injury to his thoracic spinal cord after a knife became lodged in his spine.
“Saif Ali Khan was admitted to the hospital at around 2 a.m. with injuries caused by an assault. He sustained a major injury to his thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine. Surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two additional deep wounds on his left hand and one on his neck were treated by the plastic surgery team. He is stable now and is recovering well. He is out of danger,” Dr. Dange said.
