Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Following the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies in Mumbai and surrounding coastal areas have been placed on high alert, a senior police official confirmed on Thursday.
The Maharashtra Home Department has directed the Mumbai Police to intensify surveillance along the coastline and enhance maritime vigilance to prevent any potential spillover threats.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22 at Baisaran meadow, is among the deadliest the valley has witnessed in recent years. Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, lost their lives, and several others were seriously injured in the brutal assault by armed terrorists.
The tragic incident has prompted widespread grief and outrage across the country.
In a strong statement made during his address at National Panchayati Raj Day in Madhubani, Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to justice and counter-terrorism.
“On April 22, terrorists killed innocent people in J-K’s Pahalgam. The country is in mourning. From the soil of Bihar, I say — India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist, their handlers, and backers. We will pursue them to the end of the earth,” PM Modi declared.
He condemned the “brutality” of the attack and expressed solidarity with the victims’ families.
“Terrorism will never break India’s spirit. Every effort will be made to ensure justice. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us,” the Prime Minister said, extending gratitude to international leaders who have expressed support.
“The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the back of the masters of terror,” he added in a powerful message aimed at those responsible for the violence.
With rising national security concerns, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, while political and defense leaders prepare coordinated responses both domestically and diplomatically.
