New Delhi [India], April 15: Former India skipper Krishnamachari Srikkanth lauded MS Dhoni with a verse of praise after the legendary cricketer rolled back the years and guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a dramatic five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), breaking their five-match losing streak in the IPL 2025.
CSK, who had slumped into an unfamiliar rut with five consecutive losses, found redemption in Lucknow as they successfully chased down a 167-run target in classic Chennai fashion.
At 43 years old, Dhoni showcased his unmatched finishing skills with a calm and calculated 26* off just 11 balls, including a jaw-dropping strike rate of 236.36. With CSK struggling at 111/5, and 56 runs still required from the final five overs, Dhoni’s masterclass turned the tide. Supporting him at the other end was Shivam Dube, who curbed his aggression to anchor the innings and hit the winning runs in the final over.
Beyond his role with the bat, Dhoni’s leadership was once again on display, as he marshalled his side with composure and clarity. This performance marked his first match leading CSK since 2023, stepping in after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out for the season due to injury.
Sharing his elation on social media platform X, Srikkanth posted:
“What a win for @ChennaiIPL! Dhoni proves once again why he’s called Thala — not just for his performance, but for the calm, commanding way he led his troops. This isn’t just a victory… it feels like the beginning of a resurrection. The roar is back on Tamil New Year!”
Just a match earlier, CSK suffered a heavy defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk, marking their first home loss of the season. But the defending champions bounced back strongly, making key changes to their XI and rediscovering their winning formula.
With Dhoni back at the helm, CSK fans are once again daring to dream.
