Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): In a story that sounds straight out of a family drama, a 50-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain eloped with his daughter’s would-be mother-in-law, just days before their children’s engagement ceremony.
The incident came to light on Thursday, though it reportedly occurred over a week ago. The twist left both families stunned and embarrassed, with local police finally tracing the missing woman after an eight-day search.
The Missing Woman and a Shocking Discovery
According to officials, the 45-year-old woman from Untvasa village had been missing for more than a week. Her son filed a missing person complaint, prompting the police to begin an investigation.
On Thursday, police located her in Chikli village, where she was found living with a 50-year-old farmer — the father of her son’s fiancée.
Investigations revealed that the farmer had lost his wife some time ago and lived with his two children. His daughter was recently engaged to the missing woman’s son — a match that had been finalized and celebrated by both families.
However, during preparations for the engagement, the two would-be in-laws reportedly developed feelings for each other and decided to run away together, leaving their families in shock.
Police Confirm the Relationship
Town Inspector Ashok Patidar confirmed the unusual case, saying,
“A missing report was filed eight days ago for a 45-year-old woman. Our investigation revealed that she had left her husband and two children, aged 18 and 20, and gone with a 50-year-old farmer whose daughter was to be engaged to her son. The engagement had not yet taken place. Both have expressed their desire to live together.”
Woman Refuses to Return Home
Even after being found, the woman refused to leave her lover, telling police and her family that she wished to continue living with him.
Despite emotional appeals from her husband and children, she stood firm in her decision, saying she was “happy” with her new partner. The decision has left both families heartbroken and socially embarrassed, with the planned engagement now called off.
