Madhya Pradesh CM Orders Safety Measures After Maha Kumbh Stampede In Prayagraj

Kobe [Japan] In response to the recent stampede at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has instructed the Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Rewa Division to ensure adequate safety measures for devotees traveling to the Maha Kumbh.

CM Yadav stressed the importance of strict safety arrangements at the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border to prevent any unfortunate incidents during the pilgrimage.

Speaking to ANI, CM Yadav expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives in the tragic event.

“Yesterday, on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a tragic incident happened during the ‘Sangam Snan’. A lot of people lost their lives. May their souls rest in peace. I received information that among the deceased, three were from Madhya Pradesh… I request you all to stay safe wherever you are,” he stated.

Ongoing Investigations and Relief Efforts

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kumbh Vaibhav Krishna, at least 30 people were killed and 60 others injured in the pre-dawn stampede on Wednesday. He confirmed that 25 bodies have been identified, with casualties including four from Karnataka, one from Assam, and one from Gujarat. Thirty-six injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a local medical college.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the families of the deceased. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a judicial inquiry, stating that a judicial committee will submit a report within a stipulated timeframe.

CM Yadav’s Japan Visit and Investment Push

While addressing the situation, CM Mohan Yadav is currently on a four-day visit to Japan to explore investment opportunities and invite industrialists to participate in the Global Investors Summit (GIS), which is scheduled to be held in Bhopal on February 24-25.

Upcoming Maha Kumbh Events

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. The remaining significant ‘snan’ (holy bathing) dates are:

  • February 3 – Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan)
  • February 12 – Maghi Purnima
  • February 26 – Maha Shivaratri

Authorities remain on high alert to ensure enhanced security and crowd control measures in the upcoming major bathing events.
