A recent ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll has revealed widespread dissatisfaction among Americans regarding President Donald Trump’s handling of key issues such as inflation, tariffs, and foreign relations.
The survey found that nearly 60% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s overall performance, with about two-thirds unhappy with his management of inflation. Six in ten respondents expressed disapproval of his tariff policies, while 62% criticised his handling of foreign relations. Additionally, 58% disapproved of his immigration policies, and 57% felt the economy could be better managed.
Despite these criticisms, Americans do not fully trust Democrats in Congress either. When asked whom they trust more to solve major national issues, respondents were nearly evenly split: Trump (33%), Democrats (31%), and “neither” (31%).
Trump’s lowest ratings came from Democrats and independents, while Republicans were divided. Strong supporters of the MAGA movement tended to approve of his actions, whereas non-MAGA Republicans were more critical, particularly on inflation and foreign policy.
Economic perceptions also remain grim. Nearly half of Americans feel things have worsened since Trump took office, with only 22% reporting personal financial improvement.
Concerns about Trump’s fitness for office were notable: over half of Americans questioned his mental sharpness, and about half doubted his physical health. Around 70% said he is not honest or trustworthy, with many believing he uses the presidency for personal gain and has exceeded legal powers.
On specific policy matters, most Americans opposed reducing recommended vaccines for children, using the US military to intervene abroad, and criticised the administration’s transparency on sensitive matters such as the Jeffrey Epstein files.
