New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the rapid advancement of the southwest monsoon, stating it is likely to reach Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir within the next 48 hours, i.e., by June 24.

According to IMD’s Sunday bulletin:
“The southwest monsoon has advanced over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab.”
Favorable conditions are now in place for further advancement into:
- North Arabian Sea
- Rajasthan
- Punjab
- Haryana
- Chandigarh
- Delhi
- West Uttar Pradesh
- Remaining parts of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions between June 22 and June 26:
- Extremely heavy rainfall likely:
- Over Gujarat on June 22
- Over eastern Madhya Pradesh on June 23–24
- Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa to see sustained downpours.
- Northeast India will continue receiving heavy to very heavy rain for the next three days, with isolated heavy rainfall expected for four more days after that.
