Monorail Breakdown In Mumbai Causes Commuter Chaos

A monorail train in the Wadala neighborhood of Mumbai stopped on Monday morning because of a mechanical problem. The train was going from Chembur to Wadala when it broke down, leaving all passengers stranded until officials could start a rescue operation.

There were no injuries or deaths, and all of the passengers were safely evacuated and moved to another monorail. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that the problem was a “supply issue.”

Ward Councillor Rajesh Ananda Bhojane of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) told a news source that the problem keeps coming up and that the government should fix it. “I urge the government to fix this problem that keeps coming up,” he stated.

This latest event is identical to one that happened on August 19. A monorail at the Mysore Colony station broke down that day since the electricity went out. The Mumbai Fire Brigade, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the police all worked together for three and a half hours to safely get 582 passengers out of the building.

Ravindra Ambulgekar, the Chief Fire Officer of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, said that everyone was safely evacuated, even if some passengers had “suffocation and breathing problems.” Twenty-three people were treated on the spot, while two were transferred to Sion Hospital and released later.

The MMRDA looked into the August event and discovered that the main reason for the interruption was too many people.
