Actress Mona Singh, who rose to fame with the superhit show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin two decades ago, has confirmed she is done with television, stating she has “bid farewell to TV” and has no plans to return. The actress cited the demanding schedules of daily soaps and a greater desire for fresh, diverse roles found on Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms.
The Problem with TV Timelines
In an interview, Mona Singh contrasted the hectic pace of television with the streamlined nature of web shows:
- OTT Advantage: “Working three months on one web show is perfect. You get your break, you come back fresh and ready to step into a new character. OTT works best for me.”
- TV Burnout: She criticized the continuous schedules of daily soaps, especially for protagonists: “TV has crazy timelines… When I did TV, the shows would air from Monday to Thursday, but now, they air throughout the week. Oh my God! I wonder if these people even have a personal life.”
- Creative Finality: Mona Singh felt she had explored all possible avenues on the medium, saying, “There isn’t much left for me to do anything there. I think I’ve done everything — daily soaps, reality shows and hosting.”
Balancing Films and OTT
The transition from TV was a “conscious step” that required patience, but Mona Singh is content with the balance she has achieved, working on high-quality OTT shows like The Ba*ards of Bollywood and expanding her film career.
- Upcoming Films: She has three films slated for release next year, including Border 2, which is scheduled for theatrical release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend. The film also stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
