On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that Mohanlal, a famous actor, has been chosen to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, which is the greatest honor in Indian film.
The government noted in an official statement on X,
The Government of India is happy to announce that Shri Mohanlal will receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. This is based on the suggestion of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee.
The statement went on to say that Mohanlal’s amazing career in movies has inspired generations and praised his unrivaled brilliance, versatility, and hard work, which set a gold standard in Indian film history. The 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025, will be the official presentation of the honor.
The Great Career of Mohanlal
Mohanlal’s first movie was Thiranottam, which came out in 1978, however it was delayed because of censoring. In 1980, he made his official screen debut in Manjil Virinja Pookkal. He went on to act in more than 400 movies over the next 40 years, not just in Malayalam but also in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada movies.
Iruvar, Kireedam, Bharatham, Vanaprastham, and Kanmadam are some of his most famous works.
He has won five National Film Awards, two of which were for Best Actor and one for Special Jury.
He won the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his work in the arts.
Mohanlal was in Hridayapoorvam, a romantic comedy-drama that came out during Onam. Sathyan Anthikad directed it and it starred Malavika Mohanan and Sangita Madhavan Nair.
The announcement of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is another big step in the long and successful career of one of India’s most famous and varied movie performers.
