In a significant update ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, India’s star pacer Mohammed Siraj has opened up about his exclusion from the 15-man squad. Despite being a key member of the 2024 title-winning team, Siraj was not included in the squad announced on December 20, 2025.
Siraj Breaks His Silence
Speaking to reporters in Indore ahead of the 3rd ODI against New Zealand, Siraj displayed a composed and team-first attitude. He attributed his absence from the T20 setup primarily to workload management.
“For a fast bowler, adequate rest is very important. I’ve been playing Test matches consistently… You need to refuel to maintain the rhythm and focus. Playing for your country in a World Cup is a dream, but the team picked is quite good on paper. My best wishes to them—keep the trophy here.”
India’s Pace Attack for 2026
The selectors have opted for a “multi-dimensional” pace unit, prioritizing players who can contribute with the bat to lengthen the tail.1
| Role | Players Selected |
| Specialist Fast Bowlers | Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana |
| Pace All-Rounder | Hardik Pandya |
Harshit Rana’s inclusion over Siraj has been a major talking point. Experts, including AB de Villiers, have noted that while Siraj is an “outright bowler,” Rana’s ability to “hold the bat” gave him the edge in the quest for squad balance.2
