The death of Aqil Akhtar, the son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and former state minister Razia Sultana, has taken a shocking and scary turn. The case, which was first closed as a simple death, has now led to the arrest of the former top cop and his wife. This is because old social media posts and videos by the dead lawyer have come to light, which made the police reopen the case.
On October 16, Aqil, a lawyer, was discovered dead in his home in Panchkula, Haryana. The police first ruled out foul play, and following a post-mortem, the body was given to the family. However, the investigation was reopened on Tuesday.
Aqil’s videos reveal shocking claims
The case has gotten a lot worse because of multiple recordings and postings that the 35-year-old Aqil is said to have made before he died. These videos and posts talk about family problems and how scared he was for his life.
Here are the surprising claims and information that have caused the probe to happen:
“Plan to have me killed”: Aqil made one of the most serious claims, saying that his father, mother, and sister were planning to kill him. He said clearly that they may frame him in a fake case and put him in jail or even kill him. “I think they will set me up in a fake case… He said in the video that their objective was to put him in jail or kill him, but they can’t get their way.
“Father-Wife Affair”: Aqil said he was going through a lot of mental pain and worry after he found out that his wife was cheating on him with his own father. He said, “I found out that my wife was having an affair with my dad.”
Claims of a “conspiracy” against Mother and Sister: The dead man also said that his mother, Razia Sultana (a minister in the last Congress government), and his sister were part of the supposed “conspiracy.” His father, Mustafa, is a retired IPS officer from the 1985 batch who worked as Punjab DGP (Human Rights).
Aqil said that his family members were trying to make him look mentally unstable on purpose in order to make him look bad. He said they often told him he was “delusional and hallucinating” in order to “create a false story.”
The Conflicting Retraction and the Family’s Defense
Aqil’s case got even more complicated when another video of him came out in which he seemed to take back what he had said before, saying it was because of mental illness.
“I had schizophrenia. I thank Allah for the way my family is. I didn’t understand anything since I was sick. I’m feeling better now. I want to apologize. In the video where he took back what he said, he remarked, “Thank God I have such a family.”
But the retraction itself ended on a scary and unpleasant tone when he said, “Will they get me killed?” They are all bad people.
The family, on the other hand, has strongly defended themselves, saying that Aqil was “psychotic” and getting help for his mental health issues. Razia Sultana says that the accusations are “false” and that they are being made by persons with “dirty political motives and a negative mindset” who want to take advantage of her family’s sorrow.
Former DGP Welcomes FIR as Beginning of Investigation
Former DGP Mohammad Mustafa made a statement in response to the filing of the First Information Report (FIR). He agreed with what the police did and said, “It is the duty of the police to register a FIR when they get a written complaint.” I welcome that the Panchkula police have only done their job. He kept saying he was innocent and said that the filing of a FIR is just the start of an investigation. He said, “The truth will come out soon and everything will become crystal clear.” He also promised that the family would not be scared of anyone who were doing “cheap politics.”
