Operation Abhyaas: Mock Drills At Karnataka High Court And Agartala Airport Test Crisis Preparedness

As part of the statewide Operation Abhyaas initiative in Karnataka and the Annual CTCP 2025 exercise in Tripura, two major multi-agency mock drills were successfully conducted on Saturday—at the Kalaburagi Bench of the Karnataka High Court and the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.

Kalaburagi: Legal Complex Turns into Emergency Response Zone

District Magistrate Fouzia Taranum led the mock drill at the Karnataka High Court premises in Kalaburagi, emphasizing the importance of inter-departmental coordination in responding to crisis situations.

“This projected the strength of all 12 departments working in coordination during any emergency or external threat. The drill was a great success,” Taranum said.

The drill featured simulated bomb and air explosive scenarios, as well as rescue and evacuation operations. The High Court staff, including Justice Indresh, participated in the exercise, alongside representatives from the Bar Association, police, revenue department, Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), fire services, health department, and NGOs like Red Cross, NSS, and NCC.

This marks the second major drill in Kalaburagi under Operation Abhyaas, following a previous simulation at the city’s airport.

Agartala: Simulated Terror Attack Tests Airport Readiness

Meanwhile, over 1,700 km away, the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala hosted a comprehensive anti-terror mock drill from 5:00 PM to 6:05 PM, simulating a terrorist strike from the city side of the terminal.

The drill was part of the Annual Multi-Agency Contingency Terrorist Contingency Plan (CTCP) Mock Exercise – 2025, conducted under Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) guidelines.

A total of 186 personnel participated in the exercise, representing agencies such as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Airports Authority of India (AAI), Indian Army (21 Para Commando), Assam Rifles, CRPF, Tripura Police, AAI Fire Services, and medical teams.

The drill aimed to test response time, inter-agency coordination, and the efficacy of established emergency protocols in handling a high-risk terrorist scenario at a civil aviation facility.

National Push Toward Enhanced Security Readiness

With these simultaneous drills, both Karnataka and Tripura exemplified the government’s commitment to proactive preparedness against modern security and emergency threats. As security concerns rise globally, these exercises highlight India’s evolving capabilities in ensuring the safety of its citizens and critical infrastructure.
