The pop star prioritises mental wellness and sobriety over the pressures of touring, sharing why she doesn’t plan to hit the road anytime soon.
Los Angeles, July 20 — Miley Cyrus has revealed that touring is not part of her plans anytime soon. Speaking candidly in a recent interview on Good Morning America, the Something Beautiful singer explained that although she’s physically able and has the opportunity, she currently lacks the desire to tour.
“I do have the physical ability and I have the opportunity to tour. I wish I had the desire, but I don’t,” Miley told GMA, as quoted by People magazine.
The pop icon, who last toured in 2014 for her Bangerz album, emphasized the mental and emotional toll touring takes on artists, adding that the lifestyle doesn’t support her current priorities—particularly her sobriety and mental health.
“There are artists like Prince who are not here today, who lived such a high-intensity lifestyle on the road,” she said. “It’s really hard to maintain sobriety on the road, which is a really important pillar of stability in my life.”
Miley reflected on the emotional highs and lows of performing live, describing the post-show crash that follows the energy of thousands cheering.
“You have so many thousands of people screaming at you, so dopamine — you’re feeling a lot of love — and then you totally crash at the end of the show,” she said. “You start thinking that one person loving you is not enough. It needs to be 10,000, it needs to be 80,000.”
This isn’t the first time Miley has opened up about her reasons for staying off the road. In 2023, after facing criticism for not touring, she clarified in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that her decision was about personal comfort, not a lack of appreciation for fans.
“This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans & everything to do with I simply don’t want to get ready in a locker room,” she wrote. “These looks I’ve been turning don’t travel well… I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus. It isn’t what’s best for me right NOW.”
Miley’s ninth studio album Something Beautiful was released in May 2025, and its accompanying visual film premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 6.
