Washington DC [US], May 22: Singer and actor Miley Cyrus has credited Harrison Ford, the legendary Star Wars and Indiana Jones star, for influencing a key decision behind her upcoming short film ‘Something Beautiful’, Variety reported.
In a candid conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Cyrus revealed her original concept was a visually rich performance project titled ‘Somewhere Beautiful’, which was to feature intimate renditions of her album performed in dramatic settings such as forests and ancient pyramids.
As the project began to take shape, Cyrus sought feedback from Harrison Ford, whom she has known for years through shared Disney circles. She shared early visuals and concepts with Ford.
“I said, ‘Actually, I made something. I have a PDF on my phone. I could show you,’” Cyrus told Lowe. “I show him my idea of ‘Somewhere Beautiful,’ which is performing in all the forests and at the pyramids and all these things.”
Ford’s response was frank and pragmatic: “Looks expensive.” He questioned the logistics of setting up performances in remote locations and advised her to reconsider.
“He goes, ‘You really want to go and set up in a forest and do what? You going to bring a crew?’” Cyrus recalled. “I came back to the trailer, I was like, ‘Guys, we’re not performing in the forest anymore. Harrison Ford made a lot of sense.’”
Taking Ford’s advice to heart, Cyrus decided to pivot from on-location performances to a cinematic release. She explained that showing the project in theatres would allow fans to repeatedly enjoy and engage with the visual experience without exhausting herself through physical performances.
“That’s why I’m putting it into theatres,” Cyrus said. “Because it’s something you can watch night after night and feel like you’re a part of a performance, but I don’t have to tax myself in that way.”
‘Something Beautiful’ is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 6, ahead of the May 30 release of her self-titled ninth studio album.
