Los Angeles [US], March 3: The 2025 Oscars will forever be a standout moment for Mikey Madison as she claimed the Best Actress Award for her role in Anora. The film was a frontrunner in multiple categories, including Best Picture and Best Director, according to Variety.

Madison stars in the title role of Sean Baker’s Anora, a drama that follows the life of a sex worker who finds herself in turmoil after marrying the son of a Russian oligarch. In her acceptance speech at the BAFTAs, Madison expressed deep appreciation for the sex worker community.
“Wow, this feels so surreal,” Madison began. “I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always seemed so far away from me. So to be here today, in this room, is truly incredible.”
She continued, “I want to take a moment to recognize and honor the sex worker community. Yes, I will continue to support and be an ally. Meeting and connecting with so many amazing women from that community has been one of the highlights of this incredible experience.”
Madison also acknowledged the exceptional performances of her fellow nominees, saying, “I just want to recognize the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. It’s such an honor to be in this company. This is a dream come true.”
Madison triumphed over a strong field of nominees, including Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), and Demi Moore (The Substance). While Moore had started the season with major wins at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, Madison emerged as a serious Oscar contender after claiming the BAFTA for Best Actress.
