Washington [US], April 20: Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison has reportedly turned down a role in the highly anticipated ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, despite being offered a part in the project. The upcoming Star Wars installment is set to star Ryan Gosling and will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for helming ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.
According to Variety, Madison was approached for a key role but opted not to participate, though no official reason for her decision has been made public.
‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 28, 2027, and is set in the timeline following The Battle of Exegol, marking events after Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
Levy, speaking at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, confirmed Gosling’s involvement and teased a fresh storyline with new characters. “I had heard at one point that my movie was going to star Ryan Gosling and, believe me, that would be a dream come true for me… that rumor is 100 per cent true,” he said.
He also promised a new tone for the saga: “There are so many opportunities to tell a Star Wars story that has all the heart and action and fun of Star Wars, but to do it in ways that are new and original.”
Mikey Madison, who recently won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her critically acclaimed performance in ‘Anora’, described her Oscar win as “surreal” and thanked the industry for its recognition. Her decision to pass on the Star Wars role may indicate a focus on other artistic pursuits following her breakthrough win.
